Job Description
Position: Director of Missionary Discipleship
Status: Full Time, 30 hours per week
Classification: Exempt
Practicing Catholic
Reports to: Pastor
Position Overview: To lead and promote the integration of missionary discipleship into the culture of the parish through engagement, evangelization and growth of discipleship through the three pillars of encounter: Formation, Family, Service.
· Encounter: prayer, liturgy, adult faith formation programs, OCIA
· Family: Hospitality, new parishioners and parish ministries (women, men, parents, married couples, older adults, singles), community events, support needs (grief, sick)
· Service: poor and marginalized, homebound/facilities, community outreach, respect life
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Lead and work with an existing, dynamic team of volunteers to encourage a missionary discipleship focus in all areas of ministry.
o Create a discipleship road map to plan for the forthcoming year, 3 years, and 5 years ahead.
o Help team members assess their gifts and areas of service and encourage the development of new gifts.
o Provide direction and support to ministry leaders as they work to integrate and maintain a mission focus in their ministries.
o Recruit and support missionary disciples for those ministries and providing formation and enrichment opportunities for them
§ Example 1: Bereavement ministry team to be further developed who is responsible for funeral coordination and grief follow-up with support and direction by the director of mission
§ Example 2: Ministry to welcome and integrate new parishioners and new Catholics (through RCIA) into the culture of the parish
· Work directly with communications on messaging of mission, publicizing/running programs and events.
· Collaborate with development director regarding funding of encounter opportunities
· Collaborate with director of youth evangelization and catechesis, school principal or designee to support a discipleship focus in these areas
· Serve on the leadership team
· Regularly communicate with pastor for the facilitation of his vision and special projects
· Promote mission in the culture of the parish and school staff through additions to staff meetings, retreat, development opportunities
